"Market Place Wine Awards 2024" - wine shopping in supermarket made simple with professional advice

As Michael Broadbent, a prestigious British wine critic said, “drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life’s most civilized pleasures.” However, have you ever found yourself wandering around the supermarket, unsure of which wine to add to your shopping cart?

Choosing the best wine for each occasion has always been an uphill battle for wine lovers. As one of the upscale lifestyle supermarkets in Hong Kong, Market Place launched the “Market Place Wine Awards 2024”, providing wine lovers with the finest wines for different occasions, which were meticulously selected by a panel of magisterial sommeliers.

The panel of judges of the award include Derek Li, the Advanced Sommelier; Carlito Chiu, Wine Director of a Michelin-starred restaurant; Mabel Lai, a world-class wine judge and wine-tasting instructor; and Rex Leung, the 2023 Hong Kong representative of the Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI).

Akin to world-class wine competitions, the Market Place Wine Awards required judges to blind taste and rigorously pick the best wines from all over the world! The wines are rated based on their Aroma, Palate, Structure and Finish.

Through blind tasting 200 bottles of wine, 44 bottles were shortlisted as finalists, and 17 winners were selected. The winners truly represent the best wines of all time!

Although many hold the misconception that more expensive wines inherently taste better, this award shatters that myth. Winners of the Market Place Wine Awards encompass a diverse range of prices, proving that great-tasting wines can be found at any price point. And what’s more? The award also serves as a personal sommelier for customers, which features detailed tasting notes and food pairing suggestions.

From 14 June to 25 July 2024, you can even purchase full-case wines at a discounted price on Market Place’s online store. So make sure you visit Market Place, and give a try on these wonderful wines!
